"Okay - it's shout-out time. Some friends of mine in France just released a KILLER album. They're called Les Manteez and you should listen to them. Their new album is called "Magical Seeds" on MAY I Records. The vocals by Isa Pill are mainly (but not all) in French - but they easily translate because the songs are so good. Eric Dim is a deceptively expressive guitarist - there is a raw edge to these songs while still dragging you in with (I hesitate to use the word "elegance", but it fits). Very hypnotic. -They remind me of the type of band you'd hear in Manhattan in the mid-1970's, but with more modern production values. Think a CBGB mentality. A more melodic Suicide. [Review Album Les Manteez 'magical seeds']
Élégance, délicatesse, bon goût sont de mise ! Les Manteez sont deux à dispenser leurs « graines magiques » : Isa Pill, la chanteuse possède le type de voix dont on tombe amoureux. Éminemment sensuel, son souffle vous réchauffe et vous caresse. Elle chante en français et en anglais des textes plutôt attachants. Éric Dim Multi instrumentiste distille une rythmique hypnotique : basse profonde et guitare se conjuguent, façonnant un tricot solide. Il est aussi maître des claviers mais c’est à la lead guitare qu il nous réjouit nous guidant vers d’orgasmiques sommets, balayant tous les registres du genre, du folk-rock au psyché des plus acides. Les univers respectifs des deux lurons se mêlent, se démêlent et finissent pas se confondre dans onze chansons bien ciselées. L’atmosphère de l’album est poétique, aérienne parfois mélancolique.
Quant au son il est riche plantureux et chaleureux et pour cause c’est un grand Rex qui est aux manettes Dominique Blanc-Francard celui du château d’Hérouville, celui qui a travaillé sur nombre d’album mythiques du pop-rock français. Hello les programmateurs radio il y a un tube sur cet album ! « Limousine », un refrain que l’on retient à la première écoute et des paroles qui sonne vaguement années 60, sans les clichés et les lourdeurs. Six minutes quinze secondes qui tournent en boucle sur ma platine. Lorsque le garage rencontre le songwriting intimiste…

"Les Manteez sound different than other bands. From the first tone, the listener develops a picture world in his imagination. This is not too difficult indeed. Those who close their eyes to the song "Get Off My Movie" will find themselves in the spirit of a Fellini movie, in a circus or at a fair. After all, the sound of the French duo seems to take the listener to higher spheres.
Okay, the term spheric hits the nail only to a limited extent - so there are moments like the music of such bands as Galaxie 500 or Spacemen 3. You can listen to it with five songs on the current EP "Lift". The songs are deeply atmospheric, no question. This is also because Les Manteez sing in French. Maybe their music also has the sophisticated flair of the duo Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. One way or the other, she is always in a hurry.
Incidentally, "Get Off My Movie" is a bonus track and can not be found on any pressed work."

LIFT [EP review] by Bruce Wilson : ..."Maybe it was our shared admiration for the French poets that connected me to their newest release “Lift”. It’s a gentle album that initially floats in a delicate space but like French poetry there are layered depths beneath its simplicity. Eric Di Martino’s guitar tracks wind around each other creating deep sonic patterns comparable to Galaxie 500 or even Spacemen 3 in certain moments. Isa’s vocal delivery is reminiscent of the French lineage of singers like Jane Birkin or more recently Lætitia Sadier who command intonation and phrasing over notes and melody to create drama. Her poetic lyrics and subtle rhythmic complexities are instantly engaging. On the upbeat “Laughing Angels” the equanimity in her voice has a Kim Deal quality that drives the song over the simple hypnotic repetition of Eric’s guitar refrain. My favorite track on the album is the final song “A Street With No Horns”. Its gentleness and warmth is a perfect accompaniment to the emergence of cherry blossom buds that now illuminate this city with their tiny pink assurances of life."
